Company History

In the early 1980′s, it was quite common for businesses to simply rent telecom equipment from South Central Bell for years and years. As a result, companies who rented were unable to reap the benefits of the Investment Tax Credit and depreciation credits. Bell rate increases coupled with ongoing rental charges left the customers paying much more for their telephone equipment than necessary.

Preferred Telephone Systems, Inc. entered the Baton Rouge marketplace in 1980 to provide a solution to this problem. Company president Mark Toney, P.E., a graduate of Georgia Tech, holds an MBA degree from Georgia State University and is a qualified licensed professional engineer.

Originally, Preferred Telephone Systems, Inc. was founded with the intent of targeting small to medium-sized businesses. Since that time, many of our customers who started small have grown significantly. Further, our staff has expanded to provide expertise for companies of all sizes. Currently, we provide system installations for companies with needs ranging from 2 to 500 phone sets.

Since we began in the telecom industry, the norm was electronic telephones supported by a key service unit (or “brain”). Now, the industry has moved towards merging with data and our service offering has moved with it.

In 2011, we changed our name to Preferred Voice Data Networks to reflect the expansion of our product and service offering.  We are not just “telephone systems” any more.  As the communications world changes, we will be there to help make it easy to get the best fit at the best price.

Toshiba’s IP systems provide solutions for all businesses, with options designed to save you time and money.  Our sales staff has been trained to think outside of the box, and will design a system that is customized for the end users’ needs.  That is the Preferred Way!
